tattoo policy & info

Please reach us at Artanu.uk@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

- A tattoo deposit is required for all tattoo bookings. Paid after a consultation (online or face to face) with an artist to begin work on a tattoo design and to secure your tattoo appointment thereafter.

- Tattoo deposits will be towards the session, will be taken off the total balance on the session day.

- For multi-session tattoos, the deposit will be held as payment towards the last session of the tattoo.

- All tattoo deposits are non-refundable. Make sure to research your artist before booking.

- All deposits are non-transferable, this means your deposit cannot be given to someone else to use as a deposit.

- Upon paying a deposit you, the client, acknowledge that you have clearly communicated your tattoo design idea to us.

-No designs/drawings or drafts are sent to or otherwise previewed to clients before their scheduled appointment time.

- To reschedule we ask for 48 hours notice to honour the deposit. This allows time for artists to reschedule their time slots accordingly to others who may want it.

- You must be at least 18 years of age. No parents consent allowed for under 18, in UK.

If you are lucky enough to look under 25. We also ask for you to please bring a form ID with you! Please be aware that we are unable to continue with your appointment without this.

- In case of pregnancy: please get in touch directly with you artist to reschedule. We do not tattoo customers while they're pregnant. It is high risk for both baby and mother.

A deposit will also be forfeited in full in the case of:

  • You don’t show up for your tattoo appointment.
  • You arrive to your tattoo appointment drunk, unhygienic or unfit for artist and the tattoo session.
  • You arriving to the session with cuts, sun burn, skin infection, scabs, scratches on the area to be tattooed.
  • You cancel or reschedule an appointment without giving at least 48 hours notice.
  • You arrive more than 30 minutes late to a tattoo appointment, without notice.
  • You reschedule 2 or more times for any session of the same tattoo, regardless of notice.
  • You fail to reschedule a new appointment within 30 days of a cancelled appointment.

- Upon paying a deposit I acknowledge that I have communicated my tattoo design idea to my artist to my satisfaction. I understand that creating a tattoo design based on a client concept is subjective, and that variations may exist between my concept and the final design. If the finished design is not to my liking, minor changes will be made at the artist's discretion. However, I understand that substantial changes to the design or the request of an entirely new drawing or draft will require a new deposit, and the original deposit will be forfeited as payment for the artist's drawing time.

- I have discussed the desired placement and size of the tattoo with my artist. I understand that the artist will design the tattoo to fit the intended area that was agreed upon, and any change of placement result in a loss of deposit.

- By laying a deposit to secure my booking, I agree to all of the above terms and conditions and acknowledge of non-refundable deposit policy.

- Please pay the remaining amount on the day of the tattoo session.

-Being an inclusive studio, we always strive to ensure that everyone's individual needs are catered for. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help make your appointment as comfortable as possible! Thank you - We can't wait to see you!

- Please get in touch with your artist directly to re-arrange your bookings, if need be. We will try our best to accommodate you.

- Polite Notice: We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.

- I understand that I will be billed at the artist’s current hourly rate/day session rate/quoted by piece, starting at my scheduled appointment time, for all tattooing and tattooing related services, including, but not limited to:

  • Time used to edit or resize the tattoo design if needed.
  • Time used to apply tattoo stencils to the body.
  • Time used to assemble tattoo equipment and open sanitary supplies in front of me, or to replenish necessary supplies during the tattoo session.
  • All breaks during the tattoo appointment requested by client.
  • Lateness on clients part of 10+ minutes for any reason.
  • Any touch-up work needed as a result of negligent aftercare of the tattoo, or any touch up work requested 8 weeks max after the initial application of the tattoo. (Or specified by artist, depending on how your skin recovered)
  • We don't not offer free touch ups for hands, fingers, palm area, inner lip, lip, foot, under foot area.

- Consent forms are in studio use only and on the day of appointment only.

- If you tap out of the session, or ask to end the session early. The session still has to paid in full from first initial agreement upon the session.

- Touch up must be complete within 6-8 weeks healing period, unless specified by the artist tattooing you.

- All touch ups are to be booked in advance and directly with the artist that did your tattoo

(It is the customers responsibility to do the booking if touch up is required)

DUE TO INSTABILITY OF THE AREA: All hands, fingers, palm area, inner lip, lip, foot, under foot area do not fall under our touch up policy. These are done at clients expense. This area of the body has high risk colour and ink drop out or line blown out and we cannot be certain of the longevity of the tattoo, depending on the individuals skin texture, lifestyle, sun exposure etc. All dry needle tattooing procedure are not included with touch up policy.

Before the Session:

- We recommend that you rest well the night before.

- Eat well before you come in and remember to stay hydrated. If you start to feel woozy, have a can of soda. Sugar is your best friend in this situation.

- It’s best not to party the night before because alcohol can increase bleeding for up to 24 hours. Blood also dilutes our pigments, affecting both the appearance of your tattoo as well as the healing process. Remember to stay calm and cool, you’re in good hands. There’s nothing to stress over ;)

Day of the Session:

- Shower before session. It is important to have clean skin for your appointment as the needles will cause openings to the top layer which can be susceptible to bacteria.

- Comfy clothes is recommended. Please be aware that although our artist are as careful as they can be, sometimes it is inevitable that some ink may get onto clothes so please don’t wear your best outfit!

- Please feel free to bring snacks, drinks and food for the session we offer kitchen equipment to prepare meals. (No food allowed in tattoo studio area)

- Petrol station, convenient store, cafes, restaurants, ATM near by.

- Free wifi available.

- Free parking onsite for our customers.

Please Note:

- Smoke area outside available (No vaping/smoking in the studio/building)

- We work hard to keep the tattoo area sterile so the whole process is as hygienic and safe as we can make it for you. There will be a small table next to your chair that you can put your bag and drink/snacks/phone etc so please be careful not to place anything on the artists station as this may transfer bacteria.  It is also important not to touch your tattoo whilst being tattooed as this is a quick way to transfer bacteria and potentially get an infection. After your session always make sure your hands are clean if you have to touch the tattoo. Please take a look at our aftercare section for more info on what to do after your tattoo.

Yes, for some. But in the best possible way. Your brain releases endorphins when you go through pain and your body loves endorphins, so yes, it hurts, but you’ll kinda like it. Its a funny addictive sensation and it makes you pretty ;)

Deciding what tattoo to get is a life changing decision. After all without expensive and painful removal surgery, they are form of Art thats going to last forever.

Picking the right artist sometimes can be challenging.

A tattoo is not a piece of furniture that you can afford to cheap out on, it cannot be resold or returned, it cant be borrowed, robed or taken away from you. The only way for you to have this form of Art is to earn it yourself. The hundreds to sometimes thousands of £ you pay for it should be looked at like a lifetime investment.

The best way to find out:

- Heavily research your artist then talk to them, your instinct will guide you if that artist is for you or not. Take your time don't rush. Always try to see their healed work in photos that aren’t heavily edited if you can. Too many people care too little about the artist they go to as long as they’re getting a CHEAP DEAL which is absolutely the WORSE MISTAKE you can make.

- Quality over quantity, main key to keep in mind.

- Consider style and experience of that artist is it your taste.

- Consider the artist/studio hygiene standards.

Pricing varies to the Artist Experience and Style.

  • The studio hourly rate starts from £60 - £130. Please see Artist Portfolios for hourly/day rate details.
  • Minimum charge: 1hr
  • Some artist quote their work by piece, please get in touch for more details.
  • Apprentice tattoos are quoted by piece.

The best way to get an accurate price range is by booking a free consultation with the artist you want to get tattooed by if not in person, you can DM @artanu.uk

For the artist to quote your idea, We need to consider the subject, size, placement on the body, details of the tattoo. Feel free to get in touch.

You can book a consultation with us via Instagram DM @artanu.uk or book via link.

Please make sure you include the following information in your enquiry.

  • A brief description of the tattoo you want.
  • Rough size of the tattoo you want. (cm)
  • Placement on your body.
  • Reference pictures. (if any)
  • Your availability for the session.

For cover up tattoos we work with closely case by case. We have specialist cover up artists who are very skilled and have a wealth of experience in this technique. We need to have a consultation with you first so we can see what we are dealing with. Then we will go through your options of designs and possibilities. We hope to be able to create new and beautiful memories in art form in memento of how far we have overcome on our journey.

How to clean and wash your fresh tattoo:

Keeping your new tattoo clean and free of germs is essential.

1. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before touching your new tattoo. Remove cling film in 1-2 hours.

2. Wash with warm soapy water. Be careful not to scrub too hard. Use the tip of your fingers in a circular motion to gently wash away excess ink from the surface of the skin. You should always be gentle when cleaning a fresh tattoo. Rubbing too aggressively when you wash the tattoo can not only irritate the area, it may also cause lost of pigment ink, causing an uneven appearance at healing time.

3. Rinse your tattoo well in warm water and gently pat dry. It's important to pat skin dry so you're not rubbing at the tattoo. Pat dry with clean towel/paper towel then apply thin layer of aftercare cream.

4. Enjoy your new tattoo!

Aftercare:

- For first 10-14 days: Apply thin layer of aftercare cream 2-3 times a day, with clean hands or gloves.

- If you work in a dusty environment we recommend to wear breathable layer of clothes to protect your fresh tattoo.

- Re-wrapping your tattoo with cling film is not recommended. Your fresh tattoo should be able to breath and allow it to heal naturally.

- It can take up to 10-14 days to heal, but it can take months for the skin to fully regenerate.

Main Rules:

- No pick/scratch/peeling your fresh tattoo. This can cause lost of pigment and may cause infection.

- No swimming/gym/sauna/hot tub for the first 2-4 weeks.

- Avoid soaking your tattoo under water and avoid direct sunlight for the first 2-3 weeks.

- Avoid super hot showers, baths, dust, dirt while healing.

- Be more mindful while healing if you have pets. (fur, scratch, licking etc)

Get in touch if you have any questions on healing/aftercare.

CAUTION:

- New Numbing Cream?

Test it first! Always spot test the cream before your appointment!

When testing numbing cream, watch for signs like burning, itching, redness, swelling, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat. If you notice anything weird, wash it off immediately and skip using it for your tattoo session.

- Why Test It First?

If you start growing scales mid-session, it's too late. Because allergic reactions can occur during your tattoo session.

- Please give your artist an heads up that you've been using it, We need to properly clean the skin so the stencil sticks and you don't end up with a sad, smeared mess.

What is lidiociane?

Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic. It is the main key ingredient in most numbing cream sold in the market. Lidocaine works by blocking nerve signals, preventing pain transmission.

It takes 30-60min averagely to start working by stopping nerves from sending pain signals to your brain. If properly use can last 4-6hours.

Not all numbing creams are created equal!

- Lidocaine skin cream is available on prescription. You can buy it from a pharmacy to use before any procedure involving a needle. Some of the skin creams contain lidocaine mixed with other local anaesthetics such as prilocaine. There are different types of lidocaine for other conditions. A lot of the stuff you see online (Amazon, E bay) etc is grey market trash. You don't know what's actually in it and neither does the seller half the time.

- If it's not FDA approved, it's a gamble.

- Below 5% are mostly use for cosmetics, small injections, taking blood and can give mild effect for proper tattoo usage.

Who may not be able to use lidocaine cream?

Lidocaine skin cream is not suitable for some people. To make sure it's safe for you, tell your pharmacist or doctor before using this medicine if:

  • You've ever had an allergic reaction to lidocaine or any of the other ingredients.
  • The skin where you need to use the cream has cuts, rashes, eczema, bleeding or scabs, or if the skin feels sore.
  • Lidocaine skin creams such as EMLA, Denela and Nulbia may not be suitable for people with porphyria, methaemoglobinaemia or G6PD deficiency because they contain a combination of local anaesthetics.

Bottom line?

Numbing cream can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Use it wise, not sloppy.

PLEASE NOTE: If any client proceed to use numbing cream before their tattoo sessions, It’s the client that undertake the risk and it is the clients full responsibility of the side effect and outcome. The Artist ArtAnu Ltd is not liable.
